Preliminary Exercise 2: Roland Barthes' Theory of Semiotics

 Introduction to Roland Barthes's Theory of Semiotics

Ronald Bathes is a French literary theorist and essayist famous for his work in semiotics. His theory says that signs create meaning within a culture by looking into the relationship of signifiers and signified. the purpose of this preliminary exercise is to introduce Barthes theory of semiotics. For this blog I created three slides showing the title with Barthes name, his theory, the key vocabulary, and a table. I worked on this exercise alone. I believe that Barthes theory is important because it highlights how everyday cultural signs and symbols carry deeper meanings and ideologies for example in vertigo the use of spirals as visual symbol and thematic metaphor to represent the protagonist's descent into madness. And using various colors for the representation of the character's






The things i have learned from his theory is the difference between denotative meaning and connotative meaning and how to use it while analyzing film
