We see a shot of a boy laying down while there are men in the background presumenly going to do something bad to him

Shaky camera

Definition- deliberately shaking a camera to create an unstable, chaotic, or documentary-style feel

Reason- Can create distress and horror

Montage

A series of short shots are edited together to convey a lot of information quickly.

This can be used to show the passage of time, a character's transformation, or to build a particular emotion

Color editing

Using darker colors, blue tones, and dark shadows can create a certain mood.

To set a certain mood

Timing and pacing

Definition: the rhythm and flow of a performance, story, or artwork.

Reason: you can use the timing and pace of clips to build this anticipation and grow suspense

Reason: they can build just as much tension as the visual.
